Scenario:
You are teaching an introductory course in your discipline (e.g., Education, Engineering, or Health Sciences) to a diverse group of undergraduate students. You’ve noticed that some learners struggle to access or engage with your current reading handout.

Goal:
Redesign a short learning resource (e.g., 1–2 page reading guide, lecture summary, or assignment brief) in Google Docs, and use the Grackle Docs add-on to ensure it meets basic accessibility standards.

Instructions:

  1. Select a learning resource from your current course materials (e.g., lecture notes, assignment brief).

  2. Redesign the document in Google Docs, applying the following UDL and accessibility principles:

    • Use clear headings and subheadings.

    • Include bullet points or numbered lists for clarity.

    • Use simple, readable fonts (e.g., Arial, Verdana).

    • Ensure colour contrast is strong (e.g., dark text on a light background).

    • Provide alt-text for any images or diagrams.

    • Include links to multimedia (e.g., videos with captions) where appropriate.

    • Offer scaffolded guidance, such as guided notes or prompts.

  3. Run the Grackle accessibility checker:

    • Open your Google Doc.

    • Go to Add-ons > Grackle Docs > Launch.

    • Review the accessibility report and address all identified issues.
